Universal Studios had been sitting on “The Creature from the Black Lagoon” for 6 decades.
For dozens of different reasons they were never able to reboot the franchise. I suppose that director Guillermo deo Toro was tired of trying to pull blood from a stone. So he set out and did it his own way by designing his own creature (without ever using the word “creature” to describe it, by the way) and, now, the rest is cinematic history.
You snooze, you lose!
Congratulations to Fox Searchlight for helping Guillermo get it done!
Eli Roth has directed a remake of the classic film “Death Wish”.
Release date is set for March 2, 2018.
Bruce Willis stars in the lead role as Dr. Paul Kersey, a bereaved common-man-turned-vigilante. The original “Death Wish” (1974) Paul Kersey character was forged by Charles Bronson. The role became a cultural icon and led to four sequel films.
In this re-imagining of the 1974 film the setting has been moved from NYC to Chicago–makes sense given the out-of-control murder rate in ChiTown today. And Paul Kersey is no longer an architect but E/R physician.
All the elements here for the making of a huge hit. Stay tuned!
